Gorilla gorilla gorilla

Our first glimpse is a baby gorilla, 7 months old, peering at us through a gap in the undergrowth. It’s mother sits behind keeping an eye on the baby, and us. Minutes later and we’re sat just a few feet in front of an 11 yr old male with nothing behind us but a ditch to fall into if he gets aggressive.

Thankfully though these habituated groups are very used to human presence. They just carry on munching away.

There are 3 silverbacks in this group, and when one rises from the grass it is a startling sight. It’s domed head as big as our bodies, it’s arms enormous. Yet it lies in the grass, letting the baby jump around and play on his head.
