The road to Mandalay

After much faffing about, we have hired a driver for 11 days. And we set off bright and early to Mandalay via Mt Popa (Kind of like the Skeggy Pier End of temple world).

Every village or hamlet sets up a road block of dancing, gurning drunkards. Their teeth stained red with Betel leaves. The driver ‘Jaw’ tries to run a few down but you end up paying each one to get through. And as you lower the window they still get you with a bucket of water…

Unfortunately, 30 miles out side of Mandalay, Tom’s window breaks in the ‘fully open’ position leaving us open to major attacks until a shower curtain is bought to make a make-shift defence. Sarah finds this so funny she forgets to close her window and receives a direct facial hit with a bucket of river water. Lovely. Ouch.
