Mandalay itself seems like a bit of a dump! But the water festival here is crazy. Everything is knee deep in water, everyone is off their heads on cheap rum, hoses are turned on the endless jeeps that drive people round…perhaps 20 to a jeep, 50 to a lorry with everyone sat on top. It’s like a human car wash and great to watch. Everyone wants to shake our hand, talk about the BBC and of course, soak us.
We’re held prisoner in our hotel until we finally get out for another terrible Burmese feast. Then just metres from our door and miraculously dry, Sarah gets another bucket full in the face. New Year tomorrow. No more water supposedly!
