Strange journeys, Chengdu - Lijiang

It's been a long 24 hrs...It started at Chengdu station last night when we were surrounded by 13 people who just stood and stared from 2 yards until the police moved them on. Convicts in shackles added to the comfort factor of the executive lounge at the station before our 16 hr overnighter to Panzhihua, a horrendously polluted town on the border of Yunnan province where we picked up the bus to Lijiang.

It wasn't the most comfortable of journeys. We have just about got used to the spitting. 8 hours of Chinese vomiting has left its mark though. Old lady vomits, pregnant lady (resplendant in teddy bear dungarees government issue uniform) vomits, bus stops to eject plastic vomit bags out the window and repeat all day.

At the lunch stop all of the vomiters ate well, then vomited all afternoon. The ride flipped continuously from spectacular to death defying. There were atleast 5 head in hands moments when we thought we might go over a cliff. But then as we reached the tops of the passes you were greeted by endless views into the distant mountains and 1000m vertical drops to the lush green paddy fields dotted with white villages.

Still, we have made it to Lijiang in one piece and it looks stunning.
