Day Three

The clear morning reveals the surrounding 6000m peaks. It’s no rest day though . We have to climb high and sleep low so we set off up the mountain to the beautiful village of Khumjung. The houses here look bizarrely like they’ve come out of the Lakes. But the Yak herds are definitely a bit different.

At this point we made a decision to climb to base camp. Preparations are intense – we spend $20 on some wooly hats and thermals. We are the least prepared people in the Himalayas!

Thankfully though, we’ve met up with a rival team – there are now 5 of us plus 2 guides and a porter to make the trip up to Kalapattah and Everest Base Camp.
