Patan

Without doubt one of the best preserved old towns we've seen since we left home. Like a cross between Angkor Wat and Stratford upon Avon. Cars are kept out. The strees are cleaned. Katmandhu could learn a thing or two from Patan's Durbar Sq.

It's a beautiful collection of 14th - 19th century buildings. Spaces are perfectly proportioned to make them feel intimate even when they have no boundaries. The temples, steps and tea shops provide spaces to chill and enjoy the views. A good way to end 2 days where nothing has gone according to plan and randomness of beauracy has thwarted our every move.

Tomorrow we fly to Lukla to trek to see Everest. Nervous and excited would be the overriding emotions at this precise moment. Can't wait. Just hoping the altitude isn't so bad. Tibet was much higher...but we weren't walking up too many hills there!

Still, if we can't handle it, we'll sit in a tea house watching the sunsets on the Himalayan peaks around us.
