Nagano and the Ninja Monkeys

Nagano was a bit of a nothing city, but it had some stunning countryside on the edge of the Alps and two of the most keenly awaited activities of the Japan tour...

The Ninja park at Togakushi was an odd affair, and one we (Sarah) thought may just be for kids. She soon took that back though as we realised after wandering round the Ninja house for half an hour with no idea how to get out. False doors, a maze, a hilarious slanting rooom that was difficult to stand up in and eventually, a sliding trap door under the hearth were discovered to complete our Ninja training. Minutes later Sarah got a 'Ninjarie' falling off a tightrope and the activities were halted abruptly.

At Udenaka, you can watch fluffy and for once (non-aggressive) Macacs bathing in the hot waters of a mountain onsen. This sight was so incredible Tom didn't notice the poisonous snake by his foot until it was nearly too late.
