Yangon...formerly Rangoon


It seems to be built to look like Manchester. Grand Victorian buildings (mainly falling apart). It’s like a British Havanna. We’d love to tell you how pleasant it is to stroll around the green streets, the big lake and how splendid the 90m gold pagoda is…but every 10 yards, someone chucks a bucket of water on our heads!

It’s water festival, 3 days of liquid abuse before New year kicks in. More on that later. After a dodgy night of scurrying rats in the roof of our $20 a night hotel, we wake for the 2nd day running at 4.30am and board a flight to Bagan.
