Despite another appallingly organised tour (when will we learn to stop going on tours?), nothing can put a dampener on Halong Bay. Not even the unbeleivable dampness of North Vietnam.
The Karst scenery is stunning. The litter strewn calm waters, angry and rude Vietnamese people and incompetence on a grand scale are made up for by natural scenery unlike anything else we've seen.
A couple of days on Cat Ba island gave us the sweatiest ascent of a mountain ever, some stunning views over jungle and a chance to practice our ping pong whilst looking out over the fishing harbour. It looked a bit like SW Ireland, only everyone is wearing pyjamas.
