Jim Thompsons house is a stunning collection of traditional Thai teak buildings designed and built by an American architect/ silk dealer in the 1970's. After his mysterious disappearance in the Malaysian jungle, it was opened to the public as a foundation for arts.
Traditional features (shuttered windows, upstairs living) sit alongside western (internal grand staircase) beautifully, interspersed with some ancient buddahs and the odd priceless vase detailing the history of this country.
It felt like a real link with the identity and culture of this country which is all too difficult see amongst the endless tourists, SUV's and Starbucks.
