Our guides Jojon and Didi don’t like paths. They prefer to spend the day climbing natural jungle ladders through thick undergrowth. It’s great fun, but we need Orangutans today…and we weren’t disappointed. A baby and mother that we sat feet from as they rested in their nest. An adult who’s face we never see as it lounges above the forest floor. And finally a pregnant mother who we watch from a distance until another guide turns up, offers it all manner of goodies and then starts taking photos of 2 Germans feeding it. Kind of ruined the moment.
It’s incredible watching them. Their faces are so expressive. But somehow you feel like you’re invading their privacy. They have a real habit of looking mournful!
Unlike the Thomas Leaf Monkeys. Crazy black and white Mohicans, long limbs and tails and they’re happy to just come and sit next to you for a chill out.
