We've just stepped off a 10 hour speedboat ride down the Mekong from Jinghong in China to Chiang Saen in Thailand...The drivers somehow steered us through the jungle debris, endless boulders, mudflats and cargo boats laden with ox.
And now within 1 hr of arriving we've seen Tesco's, milky bars and endless Christmas decorations including a santa made entirely of (un)used condoms. Tomorrow we get the bus to Chiang Mai to take up residence by the pool for a few days.
But perhaps a final China word to praise Cafe Mei mei in Jinghong. The best food anywhere since we left London and the owner travelled to Thailand with us and is now in the room next door...service beyond the call of duty we feel.
